One System Won Over Every Engineer
Open Air Gampel books a lineup that runs from metal to pop and hip hop to classic rock. At the 2019 festival, every act's FOH engineer mixed on the same rig: an Electro-Voice X-Line Advance X2 main system powered by Dynacord TGX20 amplifiers. The praise was unanimous.

A festival bill that runs from metal to classic rock
Open Air Gampel has been held in Gampel-Bratsch, Switzerland, since 1986. The 2019 edition was typical of its range: metal, pop, hip hop, and classic rock on the same bill, each act arriving with its own FOH engineer and its own expectations of the PA.
Local rental company Free Power Eventtechnik has supplied the festival since that first edition. For 2019, it fielded the main system on the White Stage, a rig that every visiting engineer would have to trust on arrival.
One main system for every genre and every engineer
A festival main system serves engineers who did not choose it. Each act brings its own genre and its own mixing style, and outdoor sound can be hard to predict. Metal sets are the sternest test: once the double kick drum starts, a lesser rig lets the low end build into a rumble instead of individual hits.
Time pressure compounds the challenge. The crew needs a system that is fast to design and fast to tune, because a festival schedule leaves no room to lose time.
X-Line Advance mains, TGX power, SONICUE control
Free Power Eventtechnik deployed 15 Electro-Voice X-Line Advance X2-212/120 tops per side as the main system on the White Stage, with an out hang of 6 more X2-212/120 tops. Low end came from 24 X12-128 subwoofers.
Dynacord TGX20 amplifiers powered the system, and SONICUE sound system software handled configuration and control. For the rental company, that meant fast system design and quick tuning, with little time lost between changeovers.

“Design is fast and tuning with SONICUE is very easy. The system is quick to tune so you don’t lose a lot of time and that is exactly what we need.”
Universal praise from every FOH engineer
The verdict came back act after act. Claudio Malaguti, mixing Alligatoah, was surprised that the system sounded bigger than it looks. Adam Labov of Mini Mansions ran no EQ on the system at all. David Billings, mixing Bury Tomorrow, could still hear individual kick hits where other systems let the low end blur into rumble.
For a festival that books everything from metal to classic rock, that is the outcome that counts: clear, powerful sound for every genre, and every engineer leaving with a smile.
