An ambitious vision for match day
Adams Park is the home of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club in High Wycombe. Under owner Rob Couhig, the club set out an ambitious vision for a great match-day experience, and chose Landways to design and install a new digital infrastructure to deliver it, covering audio, Wi-Fi, and security.
Stadium audio was central to that plan. Like so many stadia, Adams Park faced familiar challenges of audibility, speech clarity, music quality, and volume. The new system had to guarantee specified levels of performance in every area, from the stands to the function suites, bars, and corporate hospitality boxes.
Guaranteed sound for every seat, suite, and concourse.
The brief called for high-quality digital audio delivered to every seat and public space, with speech and music quality set to the needs of each area of the stadium. It also had to run on a new low-power, optical-fiber infrastructure shared with the venue's other digital services.
Safety sat in the same picture. A Bosch Praesensa voice evacuation system had to integrate with the entertainment audio, with emergency messages ready to broadcast at the highest priority at all times.
9 MXE5 engines at the heart of the network
Landways designed the system around 9 Dynacord MXE5 Matrix Mix Engines, which control and distribute high-quality digital audio streams over optical fiber to amplifiers at the edge of the network, feeding more than 250 new loudspeakers. The MXE5s act as the communications hub for all IP-based peripherals, supervise system-wide commands, and provide 24 x 24 crosspoint performance audio matrices for routing and mixing. Audio from the Bosch Praesensa system feeds into the MXE5 matrices via OMNEO IP architecture, and during an emergency the entertainment audio is automatically muted.
Control sits with the people who run the venue. 28 Dynacord TPC-1 touch panels in the function suites, bars, and corporate hospitality boxes let staff and guests set their own volume levels and choose sources, from the match-day presenter to a local Dante-enabled Bluetooth interface. The MXE5 and TPC-1 were all programmed in SONICUE Sound System Software, whose system logic editor allowed the designer to create advanced system tasks. Business paging runs from 2 custom touchscreen PC call stations using the OCA protocol, with audio from an Electro-Voice PolarChoice microphone distributed via Dante.

“Landways’ project at Adams Park highlights just how powerful the MXE5 Matrix Mix Engine is. This was a complex and innovative stadium sound solution, and MXE5 was exactly the right choice to turn the concept into a reality. The combination with TPC-1 means simple and intuitive control is at the fingertips of stadium staff for every event the venue hosts.”
