Superior sound for a restaurant & bar with challenging acoustics
The Cult is a high-end restaurant and bar in Kolkata, India, built as a place for like-minded people to gather. A high ceiling, glass walls, and no acoustic treatment left the room poised to turn reverberant. The brief carried a single demand: high-quality background music by day and high-quality foreground music for live evenings, clear in the main bar and in a separate private dining room alike.

High ceilings and glass surfaces, a difficult combo for good sound
The Cult sits in Salt Lake Sector V, the IT hub of Kolkata. It is the second venue from the team behind The Biker's Cafe, and management returned to the same audio brands on the strength of that first project.
The room itself worked against clean sound. A ceiling height of 24 feet (7.3 meters), two glass walls, and no acoustic treatment, The Cult could have become a very reverberant space.
Tame a reverberant room across two zones
Hard surfaces and height are an acoustician's worst start, and The Cult had both. The design needed focused coverage that put energy on the listeners and kept it off the glass.
The audio also had to serve two distinct spaces — the main bar floor and a separate private dining room — each with its own coverage and low-end needs, from a single coherent system.
One system, focused on the listeners
The main sound system pairs Dynacord FX12-PRO mid/high cabinets with FX20-PRO horn-loaded subwoofers, while 11 Electro-Voice ZLX-12P powered loudspeakers spread an even soundfield across the main bar. The private dining room runs its own ZLX-12P units, with ELX118P subwoofers for low-end support.
Power for the passive elements comes from a pair of Dynacord L3600 2x 1800W amplifiers, and two Electro-Voice legacy DC-One processors handle the system tuning that keeps the room in check.
