Electro-Voice introduces RE20-BLACK

Electro-Voice has introduced the RE20-BLACK, a new color option for the classic RE20 broadcast microphone in a low-reflection dark charcoal finish. The microphone became available at Electro-Voice retailers on November 27, 2020.

Electro-Voice has introduced the RE20-BLACK, a new color variant of the RE20 broadcast microphone finished in dark charcoal with a low-reflection surface. The microphone offers an aesthetic alternative to the original while remaining acoustically, electrically, and mechanically identical to it.

The RE20 has stayed in service with broadcasters, musicians, and sound engineers for more than fifty years since its introduction. Its reach now extends beyond FM radio to podcasting, home recording, professional studios, and live performance — and the RE20-BLACK carries the same sound into those settings in a new finish.

Variable-D design

The RE20-BLACK uses Electro-Voice's Variable-D design, which minimizes proximity effect so the tone stays consistent as the talent moves toward or away from the microphone. The result is full, smooth sound quality at varying working distances.

Additional features include a mid-bass tone-shaping switch, an integrated pop filter, and a humbucking coil for hum rejection — delivering the controlled sound character the RE20 is known for.
